Domspatz

Domspatz Stood at: Großenwörden 1956 to 1960, Kehdingbruch 1961 to 1967, Splietau 1968 to 1978, Approved sons: Diskus, Dömitz II, Domino, Domschatz and Dux Z. This Hanoverian D line begins with the Thoroughbred, Devil’s Own {Robert the Devil / Camerino} who lived from 1894 – 1906. His blood was diseminated in Hannover by his great great grandson, Detektiv, who lived from 1926 to 1943 and in fact was bred to Devil’s Own both through his sire, Desmond, and his dam’s sire, Khedive.

Of Detektiv`s three stallion sons, Denksport produced nothing while Dolman was the most influential, and the Dolman son, Dollart, started the sub-line, that leads through Domitz to Domspatz. The more influential Dolman son was Duellant, whose stallion line continues through Dressmann. The third stallion son of Detektiv, Dwinger established another line that lead through Diskant to Donnerwetter to Donnerhall, but that is another story. A large framed black horse Domspatz has been described by Claus Schridde ‘as the quintessence of loyal showjumper horses with a preparedness to perform.’ He was fortunate to begin his career at the Großenwörden showjumper station, where he managed to establish himself permanently in the mare base.

After this, he covered in Kehdingbruch in the Hadeln region, before he changed over to the Splietau showjumper station in the Hanoverian Wendland region. He was very popular with the Splietau breeders, where he remained until his death in 1978.

Domspatz left behind a number of top quality horses for the international showjumping sport, including Dömitz (Gerd Wiltfang}, Domspatz (Thomas Frühmann}, Don Rudolpho (Franke Sloothaak and Michael Matz}, Donath (Heinfried Simon}, Dorillo (Hugo Simon} and many more.

His sons Domino, Domschatz and Don Rudolpho (also known as Dux Z}, were privately owned and all competed successfully up to Advanced level. The bay Domino had great opportunities at the Paul Schockemöhle station and is found in a number of bloodlines. Dux Z was an active showjumper for a considerable time and covered in Uelzen, not far from his original home in the Wendland region, when he was older. He produced a surprisingly high number of top level showjumpers.

Another black stallion son, Diskus was the only Domspatz to go into the services of the Celle state stud. He also produced a number of first class showjumpers including Denizen (Tim Grubb}, The Natural (a World Cup winner in 1987 with Katherine Burdsall} and Doreen (Tjark Nagel}.

Despite his time at Celle, Diskus did not really establish a male line. Two stallion sons, Diadem and Dupont were tried, and while Diadem produced a few nice dressage horses, no great showjumpers emerged.

While Domspatz was unable to establish a male line, his blood is still highly regarded in the mare lines today, especially at the three stations at which he stood in his long career. As late at as 1981, on the official German FN figures of progeny winnings in the sport, Domspatz made it to 8th place in a very illustrious top ten (Gotthard, Ferdinand, Der Löwe xx, Furioso II , Grande, Ehrenschild, Sender, Domspatz, Perser xx, Ladykiller}.
