Sir Caletto

Sir Caletto is approved for breeding by five registries: Hanoverian, ISR NA, Oldenburg {German}, Swedish and NA/WPN Dutch Hunter. He himself was bred in Germany (the Hanoverian approved Holstein stallion Sandro to Hanoverian dam Calwiene} by Wolfgang Schwanke. He was then seen and purchased by Paul Schockemohle in Verden through Dr. Ulf Moller as a yearling. You may recognize Ulf Moller as the most capable dressage rider for Ullrich Kasselmann of Performance Sales International (PSI Auctions}.

Sir Caletto completed his hundred-day test in Medingen in 1999 with a score of 106.63, scoring 10 for jumping ability, technique and style and a 9.17 on freejumping, 8.0 on willingness to work and 7.0 for character and temperament. He was Champion of the jumping portion of his 100 Day Test with an index of 133.37.

Sir Caletto is Hanoverian hip branded and was approved by the Verband Hannoverscher Warmblutzuchter on February 9, 2002.

Sir Caletto, in 2000, was declared the Winner of the Young Hanoverian Jumper Championships at Dobrock, Germany (including mares, stallions and geldings} and was a Bundeschampionate Qualifier in 2000. Platina, Sir Caletto`s great grand dam, is also the great grand dam of Rickmer by Ritual (a privately owned stallion} who in 1993 also won the Dobrock Championships.

Sir Caletto`s pedigree includes the direct combination of two successful international show jumping stallions, sire Sandro and dam`s sire Caletto I. Both stallions join the elite lineup of Holsteiner stallions considered worthy of being accepted and even welcomed into the Hanoverian breeding registry.

Sandro daughters, after mare performance testing, show tremendous aptitude for jumping with indexes of 162/showjumping, 153/technique and 161/scope. Sandro progeny have won over 650,000 DM in competition with 553 actively competitive successful sons and daughters. Caletto I daughters are equally impressive with indexes of 144/show jumping, 147/technique and 138/scope with a rideability index of 127. These statistics are according to Dr. Ludwig Christmann of the German Hanoverian Verband in its annual breed value book.

Sir Caletto will be of interest to breeders who are excited by the real potential for developing jumping stock with a high degree of rideability as well as a beautiful type that will be a complementary cross for Hanoverian, Oldenburg, Swedish Warmblood and Thoroughbred Mares.

The Hanoverian pedigree from the dam`s side is a power pack of performance talent: Wienerwald produced numerous top show jumpers for the highest of demands including Wieland, Winzer, Wiener Domspatz and WeiBe Dame. The great grand dam Diana (together with Pik As xx} gave birth to the top competition horses Galipolis (Gerd Wiltfang}, Golden Gate 4 (Otto Becker} Queensway Big Q (Harvey Smith} (all by Gotthard} and Wiener Penny (Jurgen Kapp}. The latter is a full sister of the grand dam Wiener Blut. The successful sport horse and sire Rickmer (Ritual} is also out of this bloodline.

Sir Caletto`s pedigree carries internationally known Holstein blood and Thoroughbred lines (the same dam lineage as the Rhenic dressage sire Prinz Muthagen}. After completion of his 100 day test and competition as a five-year-old, he was initially utilized for breeding purposes in Sweden. 49 mares are expecting foals for the 2002 season. He was also used in the Schockemohle breeding program where he was purchased in 2002 by Silverhorne Sporthorse.

Sire
In 1984 when Paul Schockemohle re-imported the then ten-year-old Holsteiner Sandro from Denmark, he wasn`t counting on the fact that he had brought back the founder of a dresssage breeding line to Germany. Sandro was one of the only sons of the highly competitive Holsteiner Thoroughbred Sacramento Song xx, a rarity on the German horse scene but very convincing in the show jumping sport. His qualification to breed was acquired under Franke Sloothaak, through successes in the highest level of show jumping. Almost exclusively the pure bred dark stallion was put into Schockemohle`s breeding program to refine the existing jumping stock. He produced a whole line of approved sons before moving on to the Kathmann Holtrup station and the Stud Wiechenhof where a wider opportunity was opened to the breeders. After many attempts in pairing up Sandro and Gephard, besides Silvio I and Silvio II, the 1988 Sandro Song emerged.

Sandro Song (Sandro-Gephard} was bred and presented by Schockemohle at the stallion approvals in Oldenburg, where he became Young Stallion Champion 1990. Sandro Song`s excellent jump is in accordance with his bloodlines and at the same time he shows fantastic movement and first class rideability for dressage. In 1995, Sandro Song made his debut with his first two sons, one being Sandro Hit. It is worth noting that Sandro Hit and dressage star Diamond HIt (Don Schufro- Donnerhall-Pik Bube} both have the same dam, Loretta, a Ramino/Welt As mare. Seemingly, the Schockemohle recipe for successfully creating horses with movement, suspension, conformation and of yes, jump, is worthy of emulation.

Sandro`s sire, Sacramento Song xx, serviced for 7 seasons as a private stallion in Holstein. He is viewed as one of the best sires of show jumpers in Holstein since the war. In spite of a very limited number of off-spring, 40 jumpers were successful up to the highest classes, among them exceptional horses such as Societe (D. Hafemeister, Nelson Pessoa}, San Siro (G. Muller, winnings over 30,000 DM} or, of course, Sandro himself with Franke Sloothaak.

The owner of the world record in jumping, Leonardo (1991 in Paris over 2.35 m} carries Sacramento Song xx as his dam`s sire. Sandro`s full brother, Salvador 51, was also a very good jumper. His dam`s sire is the outstanding show jumper maker Wahnfried (Sir Caletto`s great grand sire on the top side}, whose most well known off-spring is without doubt the great puissance-specialist Wabbs (W. Mehlkopf, winnings over 350,000 DM} and Wabbs is a direct full brother of Sandro`s dam Duerte.

Sandro is one of the rising stallions of the last few years. To date he presented 15 approved stallions, including Sandro Song, the Champion Young Stallion of Oldenburg 1990 and Main-Premium Champion of 1992. A remarkable feature of his sons are their good results at the stallion performance tests. Sandro caused a stir at the Federal Championships in Verden in 1990 when his son, Subway 2, achieved a high placing in the conformation show class. Later on, Subway was sold through the 1990 Vechta Auction sales to the dressage stables of M. Otto-Crepin. In 1992, eight progeny qualified for the Federal Championships in Verden, several of whom were placed in the finals (Sandon, Sir Max, Sancerre, Sadenio, Salido etc.}. In the FN yearbook breeding of 1992 he is placed 3rd in his age-class as a sire of show jumpers.

Dam`s Sire
Caletto I is a son of the French sire Cor de la Bryere, who became a foundation sire in Holstein. His dam is the famous Deka, who produced 5 approved stallions: Gonzales (show jumping stallion with the highest winnings in 1980, very successful at stud}, Caletto I, Caletto II (Champion Sire of 1980, very successful at stud}, Lysander (as a 6-year-old successful in intermediate show jumping competitions, stallion approval in Switzerland} and Caletto III (the 1990 winner of intermediate show jumper competitions}.

From 1981 to 1985 Caletto l was successfully competing in international show jumping competitions under his owner. In 1983 Caletto I was team bronze medalist at the European championships in Hickstead. In the same year he was the most successful German horse competing in Prix des Nations classes and the horse with the highest winnings at the CSIO in Geneva. In the same year he also won or was placed in the International Show Jumping Championships and the Grand Prix in Aachen, the Grand Prix of Switzerland, the Grand Prix of Calgary and the Grand Prix of Aachen again in 1984. In 1985 he won the first CSI in Stuttgart. In five years he won more than DM 100,000-more than any other German sire before him.

From his first season at the Vornholz Stud in 1978 there is the approved stallion Cartusch. In 1979 and 1980 he stood in Dithmarschen, Holstein where he sired many premium- winning foals, several state premium mares and 3 approved stallions. One of them, Camaro, had a fatal accident at the age of 4, but he left outstanding sport horses in his only two crops. Only the younger one, Cantus, is still at the disposal of Holstein`s breeders and very popular. Right from the start there has been a big demand for Caletto`s progeny because of their extraordinary aptitude for jumping. (e.g.} state premium mare Carrara was sold through the Holstein auction for DM 75,000 to Brazil. Celio, Caletta and Cremona are further progeny who successfully compete abroad.
